Welcome to sos roofline systems Home Improvement article and DIY Blog.

Britain is in the midst of a DIY boom brought on by the credit crunch and the influence of home improvement shows.
Falling house prices and rising remortgage rates have persuaded huge numbers of Britons to put off moving in favour of improving their current property. Our aim is to help as much as we can by offering simple and helpful advise. Our home improvement articles and tips will help you add value to your property and save you money.

There are many worthwhile and value-adding improvements which will make properties more attractive to the buyer and generate the market value of the property.

It only adds value if done well
It is worth exercising some caution if you are planning to improve your home yourself, however. Of the 8 million Britons who claim to have been inspired by DIY programmes, almost 6 million have had a disaster of some kind while trying to improve their homes.

Halifax’s Russell Galley said: “In the current market, homeowners can inject value into their homes by undertaking the right home improvements. Carrying out work on your home can be rewarding but costly to correct if not executed properly. Where appropriate, consult the professionals and seek any necessary planning permission before getting started.”

To avoid costly mistakes, it is therefore a good idea to follow a few simple DIY rules.

Firstly, if a job is beyond your abilities, hire a professional to do it for you. Electrical jobs, for example, should only be carried out by a qualified electrician, while it is worth checking where your electrical wiring is before attacking a wall with your power drill.

Talking of tools, experienced DIY-ers know the importance of reading the instructions before putting them to use, just as they realise how vital it is to have someone on hand to help out in case of an accident.

Simon Lamble of Confused.com said: “The summer often brings out the DIY enthusiast in all of us, but it is important to remember to take safety precautions when undertaking home improvement jobs, however small they may seem. A simple drilling job could turn into an extremely expensive claim if electrical wiring, for example, is not taken into account.”

On a financial security note, it is also sensible to accrue the required funds before tackling any major works.
Taylor added: “Whatever improvements you decide to make, it is particularly important to remain within your personal affordability levels in the current climate.”
