How Does the Environment Affect You?
The word environment can refer to as small a space as the house in which you live all the way up to the entire world around you. This latter, which is referred to as the natural environment, is of major concern to everyone these days. This is primarily because it has not been for quite some time.
There is a phrase that is often quoted about visiting spaces in nature. It goes that we should take only photographs and leave only our footprints. But this is not the way we have treated our planet for some time. Though the Native Americans once acted in a way that considered the effect for seven generations, this has not been the case with cultures for many many years.
Everything that we put into the environment has an effect on it, for better or for worse. Every product that we use ends up as part of the environment. Anything sprayed ends up part of the air we breathe. Asthma and other respiratory problems are more common now than ever before.
All chemicals used, such as cleaning products, at some point find their ways into the ground and the water. And substances in the water and in the earth find their way into the food that we eat and, therefore, into us. This has become a repeating cycle in recent times. It is no wonder that many other health issues, including cancer, are on the rise as well.
When scientists first starting talking about the concept of global warming, it stirred a great deal of controversy. Now, however, it is being accepted more and more widely as being real. More scientists, as well as many leaders in the world, are giving this its due concern.
Individuals are also becoming more conscious of environmental issues. And more people are thinking about what they can do to keep the problems from getting worse.
Making the switch to natural products is one important action that can be taken. This will reduce the toxins in our homes, affecting our own health for the better. In turn, it will reduce the toxins entering the water and the ground which will be to the benefit of the entire planet.
Reduction in the use of fossil fuels can help to reduce pollution as well. One way to do this is to switch to solar power which is not just environmentally smart. After the initial investment, solar power will also help save money.
Waste reduction will also benefit the environment while saving you money. There are many examples of this but one is to start filtering your water at home. By filling your own bottles you will cut down on the plastic in the garbage and save yourself money on bottled water.
It can take a little time to adjust our habits from a society based on consumption. But the end result will be savings for us personally as well as a safer and cleaner environment for us all.
