The best way to welcome your guests and even yourself after a long day at work besides a refreshing drink is a beholding sight of a clean and inviting entryway. How do you achieve this?
Start with clearing the clutter and organizing. A shiny floor or an expensive area rug may be distorted by a distracting mess. If you already have an entryway closet for hanging coats, good! Otherwise, invest in one or in a coat rack. It’s courtesy for the guests to have a real space for their belongings instead of laying their coats on a chair. It also speaks volumes of your hosting skills. An umbrella holder is another good investment, especially for the wet ones. Hanging the umbrellas is fine but holding them in an actual container prevents water drips on the floor.
Replace the Area Rug or Doormat – This is probably one of the most important things you can do in your home’s entryway. A ratted, tattered, and dirty rug can really leave a bad impression. It is easiest if you have an extra entrance area rug to exchange while cleaning the other one. It doesn’t take long for the repeated traffic to cause wear and tear to a bargain rug. This is one part of your home where spending a little more on the rug will really pay off in the long run.
Decorate the Area- Even if the entrance area is not separate from the rest of the home, you can easily make it feel as such with your decorations. Choose light and lively wall hangings to bring a sense of warmth to the area. If the entranceway to your home leads directly into your living room, consider placing a large piece of furniture, such as a sofa to create a feeling of separation between the two areas.
Another decorating idea is to have a screen door. The light, both natural and artificial passing through the screen will make the area look more inviting. Remind your children to use the door handle instead of the bad habit of pushing and letting the door bang closed in order to avoid damaging the screen door.
Lighting is also very important. Have sufficient amount of lighting that is not blinding yet not too dim. Just enough is the keyword.
Decorating the entryway is well worth the effort. It’s an investment for improving your home. What a great way to welcome guests and for coming home, don’t you think?
