Bills are always piling up and driving you wild. It seems like just when you start to save some money you get hit with a huge bill. Either it’s electric or water, or something along those lines. But you can use some very simple tips to help save money on your electric bill each month.

Open up your home; don’t always keep the windows closed and the AC on. If it’s a nice day out, why not open up the curtains. This will not only save on the AC running to keep it cool in the house, but will also save money on lighting. Why would you use lamps and overhead lights during the day when all that natural sun is coming down? It seems like a very simple thing to do, and it is, but so many people will still keep their homes shut up during these nice days, when they could be saving some money.

Hook up computers and other electrical devices to a surge protector. Studies show that even if you have these electrical devices turned off, they will still absorb and use up electricity. By using a surge protector that won’t cost you a bunch of money, you will be able to completely turn these devices off and save some money on the bill each month.

Buying new appliances is a big stretch. But with some of the newer items that save energy, the price you pay for this item can be paid off in a few months, with the money you can save. If you have a lot of appliances that you can switch over, try buying something every few months or so. That way it shouldn’t cut into your budget too much.

Though it may sound dumb during the winter wear more clothes. If you have more clothes on you can turn the thermostat down a bit and save money on the heating bill. Plus the money you save by changing the thermostat from 75 degrees to 69 degrees will be enough to buy some more clothes and have extra left over!

Change out your old water heater for a new tankless water heater. These are said to save up to 35% in energy use over an older water heaters. Plus it will also help to save on those water bills. A tankless water heater will instantly heat up your water, while an old water heater will constantly keep heating up the water all day long.

By changing a few habits you can save a lot of money on your electricity bills each month. Though not all the suggestions are free, most are or they won’t cost you that much. In the long run the money you save will well be worth the cost that you need to pay.
