Use A Spa For Arthritis

Thanks to the magical healing powers of the hot tub or spa, people with arthritis are not only able to exercise but can also move around without the usual pain they would normally endure. Even the Arthritis Foundation acknowledges the medicinal treatment that warm water can offer it’s patients so if you know someone that suffers from this painful condition, spread the word! Obviously before beginning any new treatment, the person in question should consult with their physician first, just to be safe.

After the arthritis sufferer has been given the nod, may I advise that before exercising, he or she should allow their body to warm up for a few minutes first. This is a common mistake that many people make before doing any type of physical activity. Warming up allows the muscles to get ready for the event and warming down allows the muscles to slowly return to earth. In other words there is no shock to the system which can result in pulled muscles for example.

Let’s imagine that you haven’t been to the gym for over a year now. Suddenly you decide it’s time to get healthy. The last thing you want to do is overdo it. This may result in you becoming faint or lightheaded and possibly damage your over-all health. The key is to build up your resistance over a period of time by setting yourself small tasks initially and adding to them once you are ready. The same applies in a hot tub. Take your time to start with and at the end of the exercise, unwind for a few minutes before your muscles have to suffer the cooler air.

Consider the fact that for anybody suffering from arthritis, to move around with little discomfort in a spa, hot tub or even a swimming pool is in itself a miracle. The reason behind the easing of pain is that there is a gravitational pull to the earth we live on and that is largely alleviated once we are submerged in water. Warm water is an extra advantage as it will also cause the blood vessels to expand, allowing for more blood and oxygen to flow to the muscles and skin not to mention the heart.

Like everything, follow the rules and the guidelines set by your own doctor to avoid bringing on any other issues. Speak to the Arthritis Foundation to research the correct way to exercise in a hot tub or better still, think about joining a class in your area if available. More often than not, you will find that the benefits to your health will be greatly improved and the feeling of movement without pain, a joy to behold.

Just a little warm water exercising can go a long way on the road to better health.
