Do not try what I did. And I mean it. Well I decided to redo my kitchen, and it was really addition and the renovation at the same time, and while we were deep in renovation of our kitchen, I got a wild idea to do a small bathroom renovations, as well. I thought, well while we were in the mess, why not add a little extra dust.

Ok, while I did cause few issues with my wife, the final result were awesome. She agrees too, however, I should mention, she was not too happy about the ideas of the small bathroom renovations cause it turned into HUGE bathroom renovation.

Now this is what I did. I put together a plan of what I actually had to do with the little space we had. Owners we purchased the house from did a little renovation, but nothing like we did. Once we started there was this HUGE tub in there and a small sink. It just had to go. I needed more space and functionality, also at some point in the future we would add another master suit in, so I was considering that as well. And at some point my mother would come to live with us.

So thinking about all the above, I planned it like this:

Get the Tub out, and add in the shower cabin. The shower by itself required to have for older people accessible feature and I wished to add in the arm hold in the shower also. While my preference on the shower door was to be from glass, we went for plastic due to the future use. Now, taking the tub out, made some extra space, so we had to take out all the sheet rock and that was the greatest thing we did. You see, there was enough space in one wall to add in built in cabinets, making even more extra space in that restroom.

Now, I have to admit we did have one setback, the floor under the tub was rotten. This was actually a great thing about doing this renovation as the issue would have gotten into the foundation for sure! So we had to add attic insulation and also the floor insulation as well, as the new floor needed to be put in.

Now the only thing that is probably a mistake is, we added in the double sink with a cabinet underneath it. Now, that is not the mistake, but having added in tiles, thinking that my mom will use it in the future, that might be a mistake. But there is nothing I could do about it this time. Who knows, maybe if we did the laminate floor it could have been better, but I guess the time will tell now if it’s to late.

Now my wife’s story is, the frustration of the fix-up work was admires it and no body can believe what we actually did with such a small place.
