If you have a formal dining room in your home and are considering redecorating, there are a few tips that may help you make the most of this special room. A formal dining area can provide years of enjoyment, from family get togethers to spectacular dinner parties with friends. To help you create the right ambiance for these dinners, here are some hints and tips that will have your dinner party the talk of the town!
You should make sure if you’re buying new furniture, or even used furniture that you get a table and chairs that are sturdy and solid. If they have material on them make sure that you treat it to resist stains. A nice dark wood would be the best choice for a nice formal setting. And don’t forget that you will need to keep some polish around for scratches that may get on the table.
Make sure that your table is not too large for your room either and one that will allow people to get in and out of their seat easily. You have to make sure that the table will fit the room, and yet not make it look too small.
Your dining room table should also compliment the style of your home. One part of the dining room table that will make quite a statement is the table’s legs. These can dramatically affect the overall feel of the room. Consider the large, ornate legs that are often found on some dining room tables. This type of table will not work well in a room that is intensely feminine or one a dcor that is “dainty.”
Choose the Right Area Rug- An area rug can quickly become the centerpiece to any formal dining room. Make sure you choose a rug that compliments the wall coverings and decorations, but also one that is approximately three feet larger than the table itself. This will avoid the back legs of the chair from going off the rug when the chairs are slid backwards.
Add in a few smaller pieces of furniture if you have the room because this will add a great bit to the room. Maybe you want to consider a wine rack that is a slightly different shade than the table. It will add nicely to the look of the room.
If you can afford it look for a chandelier this will bring in a wonderful bit of elegance into the room. Make sure you don’t get one that is too gaudy looking though. And if you can get a dimmer light switch that will allow you to set the lights from lighter to darker.
You can easily change the feel of a formal dining room by simply adding a new piece accessory, such as a decorative picture or vase. The area rug can also be changed out seasonally, which can also bring a new look without a lot of effort. Use your imagination to find the look that is right for you and your family.
