What To Give The Newlyweds

I usually don’t have trouble finding the solution too many of life’s problems. But I am stumped as to what kind of gift I should buy for my newlywed friends. Ive been in this situation before and trying to find the answer always leads me to the same place. You guessed it, my local shopping area. I’m wandering around aimlessly hoping to stumble upon the store that will solve my problem. I really don’t want to resort to getting them some mundane kitchen appliance. These are my close friends and I want to show my appreciation for the event. I tried looking at the wedding registry but the couple is extremely modest and didn’t ask for anything extravagant. If I was lazy Id settle for the toaster or blender listed on it, but I want to go the extra mile for the newlyweds.

I have my face buried in a map looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. I find myself between a shoe store and a CD/DVD shop. I don’t think shoes would be an appropriate wedding gift, and whats the point of buying them some music or a movie. Everyone downloads all the media they want. A CD or DVD is practically useless clutter in this age of MP3s and MP4s. Besides I want to get them something unique.

I find I’m striving for a classic gift, whatever that means, something that will retain its value. I can tell I’m going into shoppers shock when all the retail items start to look and smell the same. I play with cutlery, lamps, electronics, and even toys, and I start to wonder if I’m ever getting out of here. I remember what I gave my niece for her birthday. An electric toothbrush. It took time to recover from that one.

I relax my eyes and quit searching for a moment. I simply look around. And the solution finds me. How about some nice and elegant kitchen ware? You can never go wrong with a nice pitcher, dinner set, or even silverware. It throws tiny rainbows all over the display case. Then the realization hits me: the perfect gift is something you would never get for yourself, yet would love to receive. My newlywed friends will use it together, and forever. Its even affordable. Score! Done.

My newlywed friends loved the gift. They were happily surprised I got them such a luscious gift that wasn’t on the registry. They told me how it was going to go on their mantle for display at their (new) home. Now they love speaking about my gift to visitors who come over and ask where they had gotten such a nice centerpiece from.
