Be Prepared With Fire Sticks
Summer is here and it’s time to look to the great outdoors. We need to get away and forget our worries and compose our thoughts. One of the oldest forms of relaxation is camping and it represents one of the cheaper ways of getting a vacation. You should always be prepared, but do not think that you have to expend a lot of your hard-earned resources to prepare for a camping trip. Just don’t forget the fire sticks!
The Boy Scout movement always teaches us to be prepared and this is especially true when you are preparing for your camping adventure. Although you may be enthusiastic, you should also be realistic and in addition to obvious things like a place to shelter, make sure that you can look after life sustaining essentials, such as fire.
Always remember that you need to light a fire when planning an overnight in a wilderness environment, and not just during winter or during times of inclement weather. Hot water is a necessity and may be essential for cooking. The easiest way to ensure that you get that flame going is to carry fire sticks.
In an adverse environment, fire sticks are specially designed. They will work even if they have been submerged in water for a long period of time. Once lit, these non-toxic and odorless sticks will give you a flame for a significant amount of time, enough to attend to your needs.
Even if you’re not lighting a campfire, but planning a backyard barbecue or tending to your fireplace indoors, waterproof fire sticks are ideal. When camping out, these items will easily fit in your backpack and take little room.
You can generally buy fire sticks in a pack of 12 and they are extremely cost effective. Many people suggest you can even break them in half and double their value. In this way, lighting a fire will only cost you a matter of cents per time. The fire stick will last for about 10 minutes or so which should allow you plenty of time to add wood or other kindling to establish a lasting source of energy.
If you don’t want to light a campfire, you may still want a source of heat for food or water. The fire stick is ideal for this as you can place beneath your pan and wait for it to warm to a desired temperature. Don’t forget that to purify a source of water you will need to bring it to a boil first for safety purposes.
To make fire in the old days they used to rub two sticks furiously together for a long period of time — a lot of work! Avoid this by remembering to pack your fire sticks before you leave.
