A Driver Alarm Will Help you Focus on the Road

Anyone who drives a car should consider the purchase of a driver alarm. There are some truly frightening statistics that tell us just how many people actually fall asleep whilst driving and the damage that such an action can cause. Whilst not all of us are long-distance drivers, many of us can recall, if we are honest, times when we have been very sleepy at the wheel and should really not have been driving.

As more than 70% of American adults drive cars, it should come as no surprise to hear that about 100 million people are estimated to have driven their vehicle whilst fatigued and fully one third of them have actually fallen asleep at the wheel. This does not always result in an accident, but the potential consequences are nevertheless frightening. The driver alarm could solve this problem quite easily.

If you work a very active lifestyle or work long shifts you are prone to falling asleep when driving. Very few people get the recommended eight hours of sleep per day due to their schedules and if you are driving home at the end of your work shift when sleep deprived, don’t be surprised if you nod off at the wheel.

Sadly, there are more than 100,000 sleep related accidents per year and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates more than $12 billion of monetary losses, in the United States alone, due to the more than 1500 deaths and injuries caused. Wouldn’t it be nice to see some of these gruesome statistics disappear if everyone could carry a simple driver alarm.

Should you find yourself dozing off when you are wearing a driver alarm, the simple item, which sits behind your year, will immediately alert you. Its operation is similar to that of a mercury switch, as when your head dips below a certain level, the alarm goes off.

Some people try to open a window to get fresh air when they are feeling sleepy. This is quite foolish as the first thing you should do is pull off the road and take a short nap. Those people who work in a driving occupation or have heavy and tiring schedules should definitely invest in a life-saving device such as the driver alarm.

The economic costs of falling asleep whilst driving can often be outweighed by the personal cost. In criminal cases, jail sentences have been handed down for those who are found to cause an accident due to falling asleep. Also, when civil lawsuits are filed is not uncommon for multimillion dollar awards to be doled out. In these situations it seems only sensible to purchase the driver alarm should you think that you are vulnerable.

Get plenty of rest before you plan a long-distance drive. Don’t rely on the driver alarm to keep you awake, even though it will definitely stop you from falling asleep. Prepare first and be sensible.
