Carpeted floors are a very nice thing to have if your home has little children bumbling around. While hardwood floors do look very nice, those little precious bodies would fare better on soft carpets. But you know what happens when you mix children and carpets – stains. Lots of them. This can make carpet cleaning a big hassle.
The good news is that you can actually clean up carpet stains with many everyday household products! We’d like to share with you some practical cleaning tips you can try out the next time an accident happens, and really will just use products that are common in every home. Let’s look at 3 of the most well known and useful cleaning tips.
1. To make a general stain remover solution, mix together water with a dish washing soap of your choice that is free of bleach and alkaline chemicals. (Otherwise you run the risk of discoloring the carpet.) Blot the stained carpeted area with the solution and then rub it with a brush. Wipe off any extra solution with a towel. This will remove many different types of stains.
2. If there are bleach spots on your carpet, another carpet cleaning tip is to prepare the same mixture of dish washing detergent liquid and warm water just like what you need to do to remove stained spots. Blot the mixture on the bleached spot with a paper towel or a clean dry cloth. Leave it there for about 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat until you are sure that the bleach spot has been completely removed. When doing this, always start from the outer part of the bleach spot before you work on the inner part so that it will not spread on the unaffected areas. Wash the spot with cold water to remove any traces of bleach and dish washing soap.
3. Chewing gum is very difficult to remove once it accidentally lands on your carpet floor. However, this carpet cleaning task is not impossible. All you need to do is to try to scrape off the chewing gum using a flat and thin object like a spatula. First, use a small brush to remove any gum debris. Rub the spot with ice placed inside a plastic bag to harden the leftover gum. Once the remaining gum on the carpet has been frozen, then scrape it off using a spatula. Finally, prepare a mixture of water and dish washing soap and apply this on the spot. Continuously blot and rinse with water once you are sure that no trace of gum can be found on the spot.
