Must-haves of Child Nursery Bedding Are Contentment and Dependability

Safety, functionality, theme, and of course whether your little one is a boy or a girl are key points in the choice of nursery bedding. Even though it is tempting to decorate the nursery with all those cute little baby items, it is important to remember that those babyish items won’t always be suitable as your baby grows up. Babies don’t stay little for long, so you will appreciate it’s longevity more and more as your baby grows.

The most important factor to consider is safety when you are selecting baby bedding. Make sure you get a firm mattress without pillow quilting, and a well-fitting sheet. Your best option would be to buy fitted sheets which are easier to use than flat sheets. This will protect your infant from entanglement or suffocation. Surely accidents will occur, however, mattresses may be protected by adding a flat, waterproof pad under the fitted sheet as a precautionary measure.

Babies should not have a pillow until after they are a year old, so skip the cute quilt and crib pillow. Also, for your infant you will want to avoid blankets altogether, so skip those cute expensive sets with pillow and comforter. Since you will not need these until your child is older, don’t spend the cash now; later, when it becomes necessary, you can figure out what to purchase. Also, when you do choose a comforter for your child’s bedding consider getting a duvet cover which will make washing much easier.

Crib bumpers are really not very useful, but they will usually be thrown in with every baby bedding set. Crib bumpers, while useful for keeping baby warm and protected, can actually do more harm than good since they have been found to cause accidental suffocation and entanglement.

If you know that you’re going to have a boy, then you can feel free to buy bedding for baby boys. Don’t choose items that are overly infantile as they will become unsuitable as your baby grows up.

The most fundamental pieces of baby bedding are a firm mattress, safe sheets, and comfortable and safe pajamas.
