Take your shovel and lift grass or soil approximately 2 inches around your boundary. This is where the edging will be placed once the patio has been laid.
Now, the hard bit. You need to dig down inside your boundary markers. The depth needs to be 6 or 7 inches depending on the thickness of your pavers You need to allow 3 inches for the gravel and one inch for paver sand. Ensure the dugged out area is level.

Tip in the sand. And rake over to completely cover the gravel. Smooth out the sand using your 2 x 4 board. Compact it. Once again, check that it’s level.
Start putting down the paver bricks. Start at one end and work down. Regularly check to ensure your bricks are level.
When your square is complete, start laying down the edging.
