Regardless of what you might think as you roam around your kitchen, the cabinet doors are actually an important accessory. But as with most things in life, the styles don’t last forever; neither does stain or paint. So when you finally realize that you’re out of style and need an update, you probably wont have the money to purchase new cabinets. But there are definitely a few ways to update your kitchen cabinet doors without spending a lot of money.

The first and easiest method you should consider is to replace your current cabinet door handles or knobs. They are one of the things that can easily make your cabinets look old or outdated. If you replace them once in a while, you’ll be able to update your whole kitchen by spending very little money. And new hardware is always nice too, right?

As you’re in the process of replacing the handles or knobs on your cabinet doors, be sure and stop by the local flea markets and bargain stores before you head down to the big retailers. If you buy someone else’s old handles, you’ll easily save a few bucks, and then you can just clean them up to look as good as new. There’s probably nothing wrong with them; the owner probably just no longer liked them. But that doesn’t mean they wont look great in your kitchen!

You should also think about repainting or re-staining the doors, which is also a great way to update your cabinets. All you have to do is sand off the old paint or stain and apply a fresh coat. When you do the doors, however, don’t forget to do the fronts of the cabinets themselves so that they match. Obviously this option is going to take a bit more time and work, but the results that you’ll enjoy will be just as satisfying as buying completely new cabinets.

If you don’t really feel like spending the time and effort to re-stain or repaint, you could replace just the doors of the cabinets. You should be able to find new doors that match your existing paint or stain to replace the old ones with, which will give you a completely new, updated look. Since the overall look of your cabinets is mostly based on the doors themselves, by replacing just the kitchen doors you’ll be able to clean up and update your kitchen without spending a lot of money.

Anyone who’s looked into updating or remodeling a kitchen knows that it can be surprisingly expensive; so don’t waste your money where you don’t have to. You can easily update your cabinets with a bit of work and a much smaller budget. You could even hire someone to build you some new cabinet doors for half the price or less than the price of full new cabinets. Plus, your current cabinets themselves are probably in great condition, so why should you replace something that isn’t broken? Create a whole new kitchen just by updating or replacing your cabinet doors.
