Xbox 360 and Mass Effect 2

Xbox 360 had its first incarnation of Mass Effect in 2007, said to be the best of its kind in games’ history, and when players finished this game, they wanted to keep going. This particular game had a great ending, and it also had some of the best characters most of us who played Mass Effect had ever seen. They were multidimensional, and were so real that they stayed in your mind long after the game was complete. Games like Mass Effect have in fact put Xbox 360 firmly in the lead as far as sales went, and Mass Effect earned a lot of money for Bioware.

If you’ve played the first incarnation, Mass Effect, on Xbox in recent years, you probably still have the game saved. However, if you had this game, loved it, and deleted it, it’s going to make you a little bit sad to know that you’re going to missing out on something pretty amazing, indeed.

That’s because if you saved the first Mass Effect file, keep it until early next year, because that’s when the Xbox 360′s Mass Effect 2 is going to be released. With this, you can import your character saved game from Mass Effect; that will mean you start Mass Effect 2 at exactly the same place you left off.[youtube:1FwA10on2nc;[link:xbox 360 hack];http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FwA10on2nc&feature=related]

However, that’s not what really is important here. What’s really important is that your character will retain his or her moral standing, so that the choices you made in the first game will carry right on over into this second incarnation. The choices will affect the second game, if you save your file, so that in essence you’re playing one long game.

Remember the credits rolling at the end of the first Mass Effect? Now, the second game has its start. If you’ve seen the Mass Effect 2 trailer to “tease” you about the advent of this second incarnation, you’ll see that the camera slowly pans over an armor suit that’s very familiar. The camera zooms in on the chest area, and we see “N7.” Ah-ha, it’s that of the main character, Shepherd.

Oops, no, it’s not. Instead, a Geth soldier is wearing the suit, and we find out that Shepherd was killed in action. However, as the saying goes, “accounts of Shepherd’s death were greatly exaggerated,” and he’s right back in Mass Effect 2, facing an entirely new threat.

What should you know about Mass Effect 2? Well, first of all, it shares its love of multiple endings with Mass Effect, so there’ll be some more of those. Primarily, you’ll be on a suicide mission, and the beginning of the game will tell you that. Of course, Shepherd and his team already know this.

You and your team can live or die. This depends on what you decide throughout the game, and ultimately you’ll decide your own outcome. However, if your character does die in this latest Mass Effect, the second, rest assured that you can return in the third installment, Mass Effect 3.
