Same as singing and playing sports, drawing is also a talent. Though with talent, you still need lots of practice. When you are in a drawing class, your teacher will teach you how to hold the pencil correctly and use the color rightly. Though the teacher can assist you, your drawing is still depends on yourself.

Patience is needed to do anything and there is no exception for drawing. Drawing comes naturally as a talent for some people. However, for most of us, we need to work hard for mastering the skills. I am going to share with you some useful and helpful ideas for you to start your first drawing lesson:

1. Use a pencil to practice if you are the first time to draw. Hence, you can simply correct the mistakes by an eraser rather than start all over again.

2. Draw something simple for your first few attempts. Stick figures are good choices.

3. You can use shapes to to draw some physical figures. When you draw a human body, you can use circles to represent head, hands and feet while ovals for the body, arms and legs. After you have finished, you can make some modifications on your picture by removing certain areas to bind the shapes and add details like eyes, hair and fingers.

4. Practice by tracing over different images. This would not only help you develop your instincts on drawing, but would also help you better understand the technique of spacing.

5. Sketch more. Whenever you see something interesting, just sketch it. It does not matter if the drawing does not really look like the actual thing. Just sketch more and try to pay closer attention when you sketch, your skill will eventually improve.

Of course, other than the methods mentioned above, you can take some art classes to learn more about the fundamental principles of drawing. And after you have mastered the basics, you might consider getting a teacher to give you further inspiration. But after all, you must really enjoy drawing for you to become a good painter. Without the interest, you will definitely not succeed.
