Linoleum kitchen flooring has been around for a very long time and is amount the oldest flooring materials on the market today. Back in the day linoleum floors where only offered in either white, black, or gray but now you can find linoleum in over 200 different colors, designs, and patters. One other option that you can also find is making your own design but this is only offered at some manufacturers.
Made from mixing linseed oil, sawdust, limestone, and color pigments tied with jute fiber linoleum is considered to be environmentally friendly. Because of the ingredients that it is made from linoleum has a natural resistance to bacteria and other things. On the downside is also something related to the ingredients that it is made with is it will often fade over time so make sure you think about that before you go out and buy linoleum flooring.
Linoleum flooring is very durable, strong, and resists fire and water along with being very easy to clean and maintain which all combined makes linoleum a very good option for many of the kitchens today. Even with these many benefits it is often overlooked as a viable flooring material because of its history of being the most boring option out there. With all of the options available today this is no longer the case and linoleum can fit your needs no matter what look or style you are going for.
Positives of Linoleum Flooring:
-Environmentally friendly
-Easy to take care of
-Resistant to different forms of bacteria as well as water and fire
Negatives of Linoleum Flooring:
-A long history of being the most boring option (not really a downside but does have a lot of negativity associated with it because of this)
Linoleum flooring can cost you anywhere from $4-9 dollars per square foot not counting installation. I don’t count installation because linoleum is a easy DIY project that can be tackled by even a novice. Installation is not quite as easy as laminate or wood flooring but it is defiantly doable for a homeowner with some do-it-yourself experience. Linoleum has a lot of very good benefits at a reasonable cost so if the only reason you haven’t looked at them further is because of their past as being so boring you might be pleasantly surprised by what you find today.
