Before constructing your closet storage set up, you need to handle the current mess within your closet. It is time to take everything out and sort and purge. First, get rid of everything that you just no longer wear. If it has been over a year since you last wore it, do you really need to have it? Also, get rid of garments which no longer fit. Hanging on to items that you simply think you may wear again some day is a great way to completely clutter up your closet space. You might want to think about bins to store out of season clothing.
It’s best to create a plan and adhere to it before going out to buy your new storage system. It becomes too easy to leave the shop with way more than you’d ever need if you don’t have a plan. Since your closet is now clear and you have decided what you’re going to allow to stay, decide how best to arrange it. Do you need shelving, added hanging space, a place for your shoes? You really need to consider what is best for you and then make a decision on a system that will accommodate your requirements.
Now that your closet is tidy and clutter free, take the time to keep it organized. It is too simple for your closet to become cluttered once again. You have got to make an effort to maintain your new closet. Shoes have a place now, make certain they go there.
If a drawer system is part of your design, make sure clothes go straight into those drawers after laundry. When seasons change and you start to rotate clothing, be sure to put out of season attire into your storage bins. Failure to do so will only cause extra clutter, which is able to set you back on the path to a cluttered closet.
