Trying for a New Look – Christmas 2009

If you’ve been using the same outdoor Christmas light display for years and years, maybe this is the year you should consider making a change and choosing a more updated look. If you’ve always used small white bulbs in a series, you might opt for colored lights this year, or use a couple of spotlights to shine on some specific part of your home, or an especially beautiful tree decorated and placed on a porch or patio.

What’s new?

If the idea of projecting Christmas figures onto your home sounds appealing, check out the projection style lights. You can re-use these lights for other things, such as Halloween, Easter, and so forth. Some of these projection sets even let you play music! These fit well on darker homes. You have the benefit of choosing several different figures to project.

Lighting tips for new displays

Energy efficiency is a big deal this year, so opt to purchase Christmas bulbs that are economical from that standpoint. The LED type bulb is especially energy efficient and durable. Rope lights are also economical and conveniently sold on spools in several lengths for your convenience. These are a snap to wrap around a porch or deck railing for a festive look.

Practicality may also be a concern. Security is a good reason for extra lighting around your home. If you place your lights well, you can add to your home’s beauty while making yourself feel more secure at the same time.

Show off your pool

If you’re enjoying your outdoor christmas lights, be sure not to forget about your backyard swimming pool. Lights around the pool edge or a Christmas tree strung with brilliant outdoor christmas tree lights can be placed on the pool deck or diving board. A festively lit swimming pool is a great way to charm your guests. You’ve already spent a fortune on your swimming pool, so why not make more use of it, rather than just during the summer months? Before lighting your pool, however, you should check with a professional, so as to avoid the risk of electrocution.
