Do It Yourself Carpet or essentially Carpet Tile are basically an adhesive tile, not of ceramic but carpet that you place over the floor. The basic advantage of such tiles over normal carpets is that you can economize on expenses for fixing up as well as it is easily replaceable if ever it gets tarnished, reducing the expenditure from the whole floor to the stained piece only. To begin with the installation process, after having already decided upon the color and pattern, first you need to find out the center of the room, from where you will start placing the tiles. Now measure each wall of the room and halve the length of each wall to ascertain the midpoint of all the walls. You simply check off the midpoints with a pencil. Now take a tile and take dimensions of the sides and work out the midpoint of the sides. You will get the centers of each side. Mark the positions as well with a pencil.

Then comes the setting up process, where you will have to adjust the midpoint of these tiles with the center of the wall. Use your pencil to check off where the two borders of tile are, in the wall. Do the same in the rest of the three walls. You will get a pair of pencil mark besides the midpoint mark on all the four lower ends of the wall. Now link up the edge markings of the tiles that you have made from one wall to the opposite wall by taking the help of a measuring tape or a string and a chalk or an adhesive tape. Join the other edge markings in the same way and you will arrive at parallel set of lines from one wall to the opposite wall. Repeat the same with the remaining two walls and you will arrive at square at the center of the room.

The next step is to place the tiles after deciding on the position and design lay out of the center tile in the square that has been made. Retain the adhesive backing of the tile until you have set up the entire floor with tiles to be flexible for changes and replace the tiles in case of mistakes in your pattern. Now peel off the adhesive cover diagonally from two corners of a tile so that in case you like to move the setting to a different room or you are shifting to a different place, you can easily remove and reuse them. Lay down the tiles and smooth them into place.

The last step is careful clipping of the squares against the wall, where you need to turn the carpet upside down and set it in its place. Mark with a pencil, the place where it overlaps the tile beside it. Make use of carpentry square or a straight edge and a utility knife to make precise cut keeping the tiles upside down. Place the covering pieces you have cut in its place. Do not worry if it is not a perfect cut as the molding will cover it.
