Phil Esposito’s Rampage On The NHL Record Book
Though his scoring records have been obliterated by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, former Boston Bruins/New York Rangers center Phil Esposito is still regarded by hockey cognoscenti as one of the greatest offensive players in the history of the game. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, as is his brother Tony Esposito who was a standout goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Esposito was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and his prodigious hockey talent quickly became apparent. He was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a teenager, and made his NHL debut in’64 quickly earning a spot on the teams top line between Bobby Hull and Marcel Dionne. In’67, Esposito was traded to the Boston Bruins along with Ken Hodge and Fred Stanfield. Within a few years Hodge and Stanfield blossomed into All Stars, while Esposito quickly took his place alongside his former teammate Hull as the best scorer in the league. Suffice to say that Boston fans were of the opinion that theyd gotten the best of the deal.
Esposito began to shred the NHL record book in Boston, prompting Bruins fans to display car bumper stickers that read Jesus Saves; Esposito scores on the rebound. In’69, he became the first NHL player to top the 100 point mark (combined goals and assists) for the season”he obliterated the record with 126 points, which would be the first of six times that hed top the century mark. He topped 100 points in five straight seasons between’71 and’75, missing a sixth straight season by a single point with 99 in’70.
Esposito’s greatest single season was in’70-71, when he destroyed the NHL’s single season goal scoring mark with 76. That record stood until Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers broke it in’81-82. Even now, only four other players including Gretzky have scored more than 150 points in a season and only five others have scored more than 76 goals in a season. Perhaps the most amazing element of Espositos game was the frequency with which he put the puck on net”Espo had 550 shots on goal in’70-71. No one has since come close.
In’75, Esposito was traded with Brad Park to the New York Rangers for Brad Park, Joe Zanussi and Jean Ratelle. He had slowed somewhat, but was still enough of a valuable player and team leader that he was named the Rangers’ captain. He remained a very dangerous scoring threat until the end of his career.
After his retirement in’75, he remained active in hockey. He served as the GM of the Rangers before helping secure an expansion team for Tampa, Florida in’92. Esposito served as the President and GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning until’98. After stepping away from formal duties, he’s remained a very visible member of the hockey media. He hosts a daily hockey radio show on XM Radio, and has even done some acting appearing in a recurring role as a fire chief on the TV series Rescue Me.

The Best 5 NFL QBs of the Last 10 Years
As amazing as it seems, we’re almost done with another decade. This has been an interesting span of ten years in the pro football world. With some of the best quarterbacks to ever play the sport, I’m now going to go ahead in listing the top 10 QBs of the last decade.
My rankings factor in the overall performance over the last 10 years, rather than who may be better than who at present. Based on this, we’re going to remember what’s transpired in seasons past in determining who finished where on this list.
These are all a matter of opinion, and yours might be different from mine. If you feel that I’ve gotten this order wrong, I’d love to hear your reasoning.
Coming in at number five on my list is Kurt Warner, the veteran quarterback who is still going strong to this day. As the current leader of the Arizona Cardinals, he added a second Super Bowl appearance to his resume last season. Warner shows no signs of slowing down at this point.
Next up is Brett Favre. The veteran QB still looks great to this day, but his lack of a Super Bowl run prevents him from going any further here. Still, it’s hard to argue against the fact that Favre has been amazing.
Donovan McNabb may not be better for his career than Favre, but the decade has been a better one for McNabb without a doubt. He’s come one game away from the Super Bowl five times and it’s clear that he’s been the most consistent NFC quarterback during this span.
Next up is Tom Brady, who easily could have captured the number one spot on this list if not for his season ending injury and Peyton Manning’s recent dominance. Still, many might argue for at number one but I believe that Manning’s simply been a bit better.
Peyton Manning has been consistently amazing throughout the course of his career. This decade was no exception, as the Colts have been a constantly competitive team and always a threat to win the AFC. Manning is one of those quarterbacks who only surfaces once or twice per generation.

The Indie Band of the Decade Contest
With a decade of music behind us, it’s time to recognize some of the many great musical talents whose work defined the last ten years. While I could list many more than five, I figured that I might as well narrow it down to the most influential and prolific bands of the decade in my mind.
In doing this, I’d like to narrow it down to five before choosing one in my mind whose influence and body of work was stronger than any other. There’s no right answer to this, as it’s all a matter of personal tastes.
The first time I heard the White Stripes, I heard their White Blood Cells album, and I was floored. Their sound was a classic one, but a fresh sounding one at that. This band’s work was full of energy, and Jack and Meg White were great.
The layered sound that two musicians were able to produce is remarkable, and the band’s success spawned off a handful of other bands whose influences were rooted in garage rock. It was great to hear the White Stripes then, and it still is now.
Next on the list is Radiohead. Many might call them the band of the 90s, but they’ve been just as integral this past decade, further polishing and evolving their sound.
Every Radiohead album seems to build on the one before it, with more experimental and adventurous music filling out every one of the band’s releases. Radiohead as produced some consistently incredible music.
While the White Stripes and Radiohead have been hugely successful, Wilco has enjoyed its own success on just as large a scale. This band has produced a wealth of great music during the decade, and its story is just as interesting.
Just when Wilco’s record label was ready to give up on the band, Wilco decided to turn on its label and release Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, their 2002 album, independently. Everything is history from there, as some of the decade’s best releases were crafted by Wilco.
Having said all that, it’s a tough decision but I think I’ll go with Wilco here.

6 Fun Twilight Party Games
This fall the sequel to the blockbuster Twilight will be in Theaters. Fans everywhere are counting the days and minutes ’til New Moon comes to theaters. There still over three weeks until its release. So how can fans pass the time? They can do by having a Twilight themed party. One thing that can make your Twilight/New Moon party a success is the entertainment and games. A great game will help to make a party more fun and get everyone into the spirit of the party. It will also be imaginative and incorporate important details from the theme. Here are some great suggestions you can use at your event.
First have New Moon or Twilight Jeopardy. Test guest’s fandom with question concerning the Twilight Series, the actors in the movie, and any other related bits of trivia. You can actually play the Jeopardy game as either an individual or in teams. Otherwise the rules remain the same. You create a game board with categories and points and everyone has to phrase answers in the form of a question. The person or team that wins could get collectible Twilight Items.
A fun idea for a Halloween party game is to have Twilight bobbing for apples. Give each guest gets a set of fake fangs and has to “sink their teeth” into the apples to get them. Make it more fun by setting a time limit. The person who has the most apples wins.
Another great idea is to have a game of who said what. Have you or someone else at the party read key lines from either the Twilight or New Moon novels. Then have guests guess which character said the line or phrase. This is a great way for Twilight fans to show off their knowledge and read some of their favorite part in the novels.
Vampires have an extraordinary sense of smell so the next game should be appropriate for your party and quite interesting. Get a collection of items with smells that your guests should be able to recognize. It can be anything from perfume, to food, or everyday household items. Make sure that no one can see the items. Blindfold each participant and have them guess what item they smell. You can make it more interesting by adding some more difficult scents in the mix. You can give bonus points to participant who can identify them.
There are also some great board games you can buy at your local bookstore or Wal-Mart. You can purchase Twilight Themed DVD games, Monopoly, or other games and have a game night. Of course make sure to have everyone play the short time version of these games. You want everyone to have the chance to enjoy the rest of the party.
Another idea is to have costume contest. Have guests and couples dress as key characters from the Twilight series. Then give great door prizes to the people with the best costumes. You can also have look-a-like contests. Give special awards to individuals who look most like the characters from the Twilight movies.
There are many other great ideas that you can use for party games. Just use your knowledge of the movie and the books combined with your imagination to come up with fun and original games that will help to add excitement to your party.

The Biggest Athletes of the Past 100 Years
Considering that just about none of us were alive at the turn of the 20th century, it’s hard to write this article without at least a trace of bias.
If we weren’t around to see these athletes in action, we’ll never really know just how much they meant to the world at the time. Despite the fact that we’ve heard all of the stories, it simply isn’t the same. Having said that, I’m going to do my best to account for this too.
It’s hard to narrow this list down to five, but these are the five men who I think had more meaning to their sports than any others. This is all subject to opinion, and I’d love to hear yours.
The first person I’ll mention is a baseball player whose impact could never be felt today like it was a century ago. Ty Cobb was one of the most influential baseball players in baseball history, and is largely responsible for the sport’s popularity.
As far as boxing goes, Muhammad Ali was the most high profile boxer to ever grace the sport. His personality and charisma were second to none, and the same can be said about his boxing skills.
Pele is often considered the Michael Jordan of soccer. Considering the fact that more people worldwide watch and play soccer than any other sport, he easily commands a top 3 spot on this list.
Babe Ruth. The Babe officially put baseball on the map and made it America’s pastime for nearly a century. He was a legend of his time and still remains the king of the home run in the minds of many. If not for Babe Ruth, baseball wouldn’t be as big as it is today.
In the basketball world, everyone wants to be like Mike. Many of us were fortunate enough to see him in action, and Jordan was the kind of athlete whose talent is witnessed once in a lifetime.
