The Indie Band of the Decade Contest

With a decade of music behind us, it’s time to recognize some of the many great musical talents whose work defined the last ten years. While I could list many more than five, I figured that I might as well narrow it down to the most influential and prolific bands of the decade in my mind.

In doing this, I’d like to narrow it down to five before choosing one in my mind whose influence and body of work was stronger than any other. There’s no right answer to this, as it’s all a matter of personal tastes.

The first time I heard the White Stripes, I heard their White Blood Cells album, and I was floored. Their sound was a classic one, but a fresh sounding one at that. This band’s work was full of energy, and Jack and Meg White were great.

The layered sound that two musicians were able to produce is remarkable, and the band’s success spawned off a handful of other bands whose influences were rooted in garage rock. It was great to hear the White Stripes then, and it still is now.

Next on the list is Radiohead. Many might call them the band of the 90s, but they’ve been just as integral this past decade, further polishing and evolving their sound.

Every Radiohead album seems to build on the one before it, with more experimental and adventurous music filling out every one of the band’s releases. Radiohead as produced some consistently incredible music.

While the White Stripes and Radiohead have been hugely successful, Wilco has enjoyed its own success on just as large a scale. This band has produced a wealth of great music during the decade, and its story is just as interesting.

Just when Wilco’s record label was ready to give up on the band, Wilco decided to turn on its label and release Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, their 2002 album, independently. Everything is history from there, as some of the decade’s best releases were crafted by Wilco.

Having said all that, it’s a tough decision but I think I’ll go with Wilco here.

Where To Begin With A New Lighting Display

Getting Started

Obviously, if you’ve never attempted setting up an outdoor Christmas lighting display before now, you probably could use a few tips on how to get it underway. Most people’s biggest concern is working with electricity and if this is a first time, some safety tips are in order. Check with an electrical professional to get some guidelines about what you should have in the way of equipment and safety in order to get started.

Whether you have a small or a large home, there is an outdoor lighting idea perfect for your application. Some people who just begin decorating their property start somewhat small and add to the effect each year. Others are determined to have the best looking decorated house in the neighborhood and go “all out” with their choices. If you’re one of those who will start small, why not choose a spotlight directed at the special wreath on your front door. Sometimes, two spotlights are used, one in green and one in white for a dramatic effect.

Ideas for your first Outdoor Lighting project

If you want a particularly nice focal point, place a small decorated tree on your front stoop or porch. Place colored or clear white lights on the tree for instant “holiday”. The most energy efficient lights are the LED bulbs or try some of the rope lights if you’d like to wrap them around porch columns. They are equally energy saving lights.

Small children in a home sometimes dictate what will be the focal point of your yard decorations. Take them with you to the lighting/display store to help choose a perfect front yard figure. The joy you will experience from their going along to make a decorating decision will be enough to make it all worthwhile. Chances are, they will choose a lighted Santa as their special lighted Christmas display.

Equipment to shop for

Go to your local outdoor lighting store to pick up the needed equipment and supplies for your decorating venture. Naturally, you’ll need several substantial extension cords that are outdoor specific. Next, most people opt on using a timer to turn their light display on and off each day. In addition, to being convenient, it is an added security measure for your property. No one will know you’re away from home. Be certain that any power cords or lights that you purchase are UL approved.

Just think how proud you’ll be of yourself next year when you have everything you need to set up that holiday display once more. It won’t be a question anymore of how to begin, but when to begin. If the small children at home have any input, they’ll want the decorations put up very soon after Thanksgiving.

Types Of Outdoor Christmas Lights

Trying for a New Look – Christmas 2009

If you’ve been using the same outdoor Christmas light display for years and years, maybe this is the year you should consider making a change and choosing a more updated look. If you’ve always used small white bulbs in a series, you might opt for colored lights this year, or use a couple of spotlights to shine on some specific part of your home, or an especially beautiful tree decorated and placed on a porch or patio.

What’s new?

If the idea of projecting Christmas figures onto your home sounds appealing, check out the projection style lights. You can re-use these lights for other things, such as Halloween, Easter, and so forth. Some of these projection sets even let you play music! These fit well on darker homes. You have the benefit of choosing several different figures to project.

Lighting tips for new displays

Energy efficiency is a big deal this year, so opt to purchase Christmas bulbs that are economical from that standpoint. The LED type bulb is especially energy efficient and durable. Rope lights are also economical and conveniently sold on spools in several lengths for your convenience. These are a snap to wrap around a porch or deck railing for a festive look.

Practicality may also be a concern. Security is a good reason for extra lighting around your home. If you place your lights well, you can add to your home’s beauty while making yourself feel more secure at the same time.

Show off your pool

If you’re enjoying your outdoor christmas lights, be sure not to forget about your backyard swimming pool. Lights around the pool edge or a Christmas tree strung with brilliant outdoor christmas tree lights can be placed on the pool deck or diving board. A festively lit swimming pool is a great way to charm your guests. You’ve already spent a fortune on your swimming pool, so why not make more use of it, rather than just during the summer months? Before lighting your pool, however, you should check with a professional, so as to avoid the risk of electrocution.

New Ideas For Traditional Sleeve Tattoos

One of the most popular types of tattoo is the sleeve tattoo. These tattoos are not just arm tattoos, like what most people know. They are tattoos that look like sleeves because they cover a large area of one part of the body (e.g. an arm or leg) with little or no skin showing.

The designs of sleeve tattoos are very intricate and complicated. Usually, they are colourful and depict several images with some unusual designs or patterns. These are popular among boys, especially those who belong in a rock band. But these days, you will see many girls sporting sleeve tattoos on their arms or legs.

You can find designs for sleeve tattoos online or at your local tattoo shop. There are ancient and modern designs available.

Designs which feature koi, cherry blossoms and hibiscus flowers are colorful and graceful. Chinese dragons are also a popular choice. Women might choose to consider the dainty, open work patterns of Indian tattoos, which are most often applied in temporary ink to women in India.

The most frequently chosen designs for women are the floral motifs. Intricately entwined leaves and vines with brightly colored blossoms appeal to many women. Butterflies are also popular either with a floral design or in a design of their own. Roses designs are sought by both men and women, often with a skull included in the design.

Sleeve tattoos are quite large and highly visible. They take multiple sittings over a period of week and are fairly expensive. the exact price of the tattoo will depend on the complexity of the design, the number of colors used in the design and the overall size of the tattoo. Price also varies by artist. The more well known artists are more expensive.

Before you get a sleeve tattoo, consider that it will be difficult to cover up. This tattoo is a statement, and you must be comfortable with your statement because you won’t be able to easily hide it.

Before deciding on a sleeve tattoo, careful consideration should be given too the design and the choice of tattoo artist. Sleeve tattoos are not easily concealed, so that must be another consideration. This is not a project which should be undertaken lightly or impulsively.

Can You Smoke Cigars Right After Buying Them?

If you are like most people who are into cigars, whether you are a novice or someone who has been smoking for years, you will find that the prospect of getting a new cigar is very exciting. You may have even saved up some money to buy a special, expensive cigar. As someone who is into cigars, you are probably aware that there are a number of “rules” that go along with cigars. Everything from using cigar cutter lighters so that you get the perfect light to your cigar to choosing the right humidor is important. One of the things that some wonder, especially those who are new, is if they should smoke their cigars right after buying them.

So, should you smoke them as soon as you buy them? While it might be tempting, you don’t want to have a bad experience, especially if you buy a cigar that you have been waiting to try. When you buy from a cigar shop, you don’t always know how long the cigars have been in the humidor. It could be that the shop just put them into the humidor, which means that they won’t have the right amount of moisture. This can make for a bad experience, and is something that you want to avoid at all costs.

Most of the better cigar shops are going to keep the cigars in the humidor to make sure that they are at their best. However, if you are buying from a place you have never been, you aren’t going to know their practices. When this is the case, you might find that you have a better experience when you take the cigars home and store them in your own humidor for a day or two. This will give the cigar time to regain the moisture that it needs.

In this case, you should take your cigars home and put them into your own humidor at home. You will want to leave the cigars inside the humidor for a few days so that you can be sure that it has the proper amount of moisture. This will give the cigar a better taste and you will find that smoking it is far more enjoyable. Those who don’t have a humidor of their own can always see if they can store the cigars in the humidor at the shop until they are ready to pick them up. Most shops will let you do this.

Sometimes the myths involving cigars and the best ways to smoke them are entirely true. If you are new to cigars, you might want to learn as much as you can about them so that you have an enjoyable experience.
