Installing Your Own Vertical Blinds

Planning on buying vertical blinds for your windows and or doors? If so, you need to make sure that you know what you will need in order to install them on your own.

One of the most important things to note is that you should get the exact measurements of the window or windows you wish to have the vertical blinds for. After you have done this, take those measurements to a store that sells window blinds to see if the size you have are stock. If they are not, then you will have to have the window blinds special ordered in order to have an exact fit for your window.

Once your vertical blinds are in and you have brought them home for installation make sure you have specific tools and hardware items in order to be able to successfully install your window blinds.

There are specific tools you should have on hand to be able to install your blinds with ease, those tools would be a tape measure, hammer with some finishing nails, a pencil, level to make sure you have the window blinds even, a flathead screw driver, a drill, hex head drill bit, one sixteenth of an inch and three sixteenth of an inch bits, scissors for cutting excess cord off, if it is dry wall that you are mounting on you will also need wall anchors.

Parts you will need to make sure that you have for your window blinds would be wall brackets, nuts, mounting clips, bolts, mounting screws, headrail, louvers or vanes, chain and clip and cord weight or cord clip.

The two different mounting styles differ somewhat in the way that they are installed. There is an inside mount that goes on the inside of the windowsill and the outside mount that goes over the window on the wall.

No mounting brackets will be used for an inside mount, this is where you would use mounting clips. Just remove the mounting brackets from the blinds and discard them. Now adjust the screws keeping the mounting clips intact.

The next thing you will do is mark the valance and the frame of the window. You need to hold the valance up and measure out the width of the valance marking it on the wall. Measure an inch out from where the width mark is to get the depth. Center it by placing the mounting clip in the third groove which is four inches from the end.

Now you will hold the valance up and line up the back of it with the marks that have been made. If it is dry wall, remember to include wall anchors then screw all the screws into the valance, clips and sill.

The next thing you will do is snap the headrail into place and make sure that you have the blinds cord is on the side you want it to be on and then take a screw driver and place between the headrail and release tab to remove the blind.

Outside mounting blinds are done a little differently than the inside mounting. You will need to mark the height of the wall at the louver length and then add two inches. Then you will center the headrail where you have the height marked. Then you need to make a two-inch mark on the wall about four inches in from each end. Then make marks for each bracket and make sure they are evenly placed.

Next you will need to hold the brackets up to the two-inch marks and mark an area for the mounting holes that will go into the wall. Now drill holes into these marks. Make sure to use wall anchors if you are mounting into dry wall. You will now screw brackets into place making sure that you use two screws for each bracket you use.

Tighten all the screws and snap the headrail into place and do the same with the window blinds that is mentioned with the inside mount.

Now take the louvers that you have and gently attach them to the stem slot by pushing up on louver then slowly pulling it back down in place. If you have cloth louvers it is important that you make sure all the sides with hems are facing the same direction.

For safety reasons such as to avoid a small child or pet being strangled, it is advised that you attach a weight to the pull cord. Securing attach it to the wall or towards the back of the windowsill for an inside mount.

If the cord is too long you can adjust it and tie a knot where you want it to end and then cut off the excess cord and discard.

Vertical Blinds – Finding The Right Ones

Vertical blinds have been around since before every house had electricity and indoor bathrooms! And believe it or not, styles haven’t changed much at all. They still can be found in white, narrow slats, aluminum, and two drawstrings – one for the slats and one for the height.

If adding style to a room is your main focus, you now have colors that match any decorative scheme or mood. A room done in Early American, for instance, would look great with verticals that came with matching valance in perhaps pale oak, or a wood that matches the furniture in the room itself.

There are even vertical blinds to help with your energy bills. There’s nothing like pure white window blinds to help keep out the summer heat. Dark or black blinds will help retain heat in the cold winter months. For anyone who wants to see some serious savings on their heating and air conditioning bills, buy window blinds with thermal backing – these help no matter what climate you live in.

Verticals come in standard sizes that fit the usual windows and patio doors. Custom sizes can be ordered either online or at your local home stores. Depending on the size and the style you are trying to achieve, you have a choice of installing your window blinds either “inside” or “outside” the window frame. Both have pros and cons, and the blinds themselves will usually dictate your choice – some only come with one option.

Occasionally, window blinds will need to be cleaned. Some of the higher end and more expensive blinds are actually the most difficult to clean and keep clean. They are usually made of materials that can’t get very wet without being damaged, eliminating the possible use of most household spray cleaners. Spot cleaning with carpet shampoo is recommended. For heavy dirt, you might have a problem. Even professional cleaning companies have a difficult time doing this well.

The more expensive window blinds made with fabric are very difficult to clean and even cleaning services have a tough time doing a suitable job.

Verticals can be difficult to hang even for experienced installers. The larger the window, the more difficult the process. If your window blinds have multiple draws – you can pull them to either side – this entails more hardware and more labor. Many stores offer free or very inexpensive installation a few times a year, and frequently with a minimum purchase you can get free installation as well. If you aren’t comfortable trying this for yourself, have the pros do it. If they make a mistake, they need to fix it, and that includes giving you new blinds if they damage them in the process.

If custom is your preference, many stores will even match or coordinate your wallpaper or other colors in the room. You can usually choose your choice of materials as well. Some consumers love to have their blinds match the wallpaper or sofa, but they still insist on good old fashioned plastic because of its ease of use and durability.

Vertical Blinds- The Best Looking Option For Windows

I don’t know about you, but I would be hard pressed to tell you what my best friend has covering the windows and doors in her house. I’m inside of the house often enough that you’d think I’d know. Why don’t I know? Because whatever she has covering the glass in her house didn’t grab my attention. Most people have pretty boring window coverings. Vertical blinds are not her choice for window coverings.

Vertical blinds take window covering to a whole new level. Whether you’re covering a tiny window or a huge set of sliding glass doors, there is a set of vertical window blinds that will not only improve the look of your home, they’ll keep out the light like no other kind of window blinds or shades can. They’ll also keep those prying eyes from spying what goes on in your place.

Add another dimension to your living and working spaces when you use vertical blinds to help you maintain desired room temperature and light. Verticals let you decide how much sunshine pours into the room or if you prefer none at all. People who live in the city will appreciate the way that verticals keep out the light unlike other window blinds and shades.

I thought, “Wow, those must be pretty expensive. ” I was wrong. There’s nothing better than being wrong about how much something is going to cost-that is, when you’re paying a lot less for something than you’d anticipated.

Other kinds of window coverings will blow around and get all torn up if you want a fair amount of air to come through without drawing them all of the way open, especially horizontal shades or window blinds. We’ve all seen metal horizontals that are bent and look awful because they’ve blown in the breeze and gotten literally bent out of shape. Have you ever noticed how dirty horizontal window blinds get?

Vertical blinds are a cinch to clean, very much unlike the other kinds of window covering from which you might choose. Curtains are incredibly expensive to have cleaned-you must take them to a dry cleaner if you really want to get the dirt and smells out of them. Luckily, verticals don’t retain any smells, not even the fabric ones, because of the air circulation around them.

I took them home after having them professionally cut to fit my windows and sliding glass doors. They cut them for free. How perfect is that? I didn’t have to buy something that was too big for my window openings nor was I forced to buy a size smaller than the opening and have to come up with some creative way to fill in the gaps. I couldn’t have been happier.

If you can’t find vertical blinds in the size you need, it’s no problem. Buy the next size up and have them professionally cut to fit your window spaces!

Roller Shades-What They Can Do To Help With Privacy

Privacy is a big issue for many people. Whether you’re at home or your office, it’s really no one’s business but your own, what you’re doing. When you live in a heavily populated area and particularly when you live in an apartment or town home, it’s sometimes very difficult to feel like you really have your own space without anyone else seeing what you’re doing. Roller shades are a cheap and easy way to keep your privacy maintained.

That’s not all that roller shades can do for you. They help block out the light. Whether it’s the sun’s bright rays or the lights from the city outside, these window shades are heavy and will help shield your eyes from the light. Many people who live in big cities tend to get used to all of the noise that they hear on a daily and nightly basis and in fact, when they go somewhere quiet, have a very difficult time adjusting. A friend of mine has to sleep with a fan on, not for the air circulation but for the constant humming noise-any time she comes to visit me because I live where it’s very peaceful at night.

You can find roller window shades at pretty much any home improvement store. You’ll find a selection of colors and sizes, depending on where you shop. If you really want to get the very best deal and best selection, though, it’s time to do a little online shopping. You can find nearly every color you can imagine of roller shade online. You’ll also find all of the standard sized roller shades in addition to specialty-sized window shades when you search and shop online.

Once you place your order for your roller shades, you should get them fairly quickly. If you had to special order a specific size, you may have to wait a little bit longer than if you would have purchased a size that was already on hand, in stock. However, the wait times don’t seem to be very long for special orders. You’ll find a full set of instructions with your window shades when you receive them.

You can install the window shades easily with a few simple tools that you should already have around the house. If you don’t have a hammer, a screwdriver or drill, you can ask to borrow them from a friend or you can buy them fairly inexpensively at your local dollar store or home improvement store.

Roller shades can be placed either inside or outside of the window. If you choose to install them outside o f the window frame, remember to purchase window shades that are a little larger in length and width than the window is.

If need be, you can purchase roller shades that are a little bit longer or wider than you need and it will still be satisfactory.
