Top Ten Ways To Help Keep Insects And Animals Away From Your Hot Tub
Keeping a hot tub clean is the top priority to hot tub ownership. Sure you can use a solid hot tub cover, but that might not keep pests away entirely. This article will discuss the top ten tips to keep your hot tub free and clear of unwanted animals and bugs.
1. Yard Fence – A yard fence, or privacy fence, will enclose your entire yard, helping to keep both people and animals out. This will help you to keep your hot tub from hosting unwanted visitors, and the privacy fence will also provide you with some much needed privacy for those late night romantic dips in the hot tub.
2. Hot Tub Covers – We mentioned these earlier, so we should not forget them. Hot tub covers are a great way to keep bugs out of the water. These covers are easy to use and should be used every time you get out of the tub. The covers not only ensure that bugs do not land in the water by accident but also do not allow mosquitoes to make their nests in the water. They also keep out larger critters, including rats and racoons and skunks and dogs and birds and especially young children.
3. Install a Plastic Owl – Yes, a plastic owl works like a scarecrow for smaller birds and rodents. Typically these owls are used in gardens to keep your plants from being eaten but it is also a great way to keep these unwanted visitors and any presents they might leave behind.
4. Light a Citronella Candle – Citronella is most often associated with repelling flying bugs. But it is also useful to keep away wild animals and neighborhood pets. Most insects and animals can’t stand the smell of citronella. The candles can add a romantic touch for your late night dips and best off all, no mosquito bites!
5. Kitchen Tent – If you are allergic to (or even just highly sensitive to) pests that are keeping you out of your hot tub you can go the extreme route and erect a kitchen tent around your deck. Not only will your hot tub be bug free it will also go a long way to keeping out unwanted creatures. Bonus – a tent lets you use your hot tub even in the rain, and shades you from the hot sun.
6. Sprays and Pellets – There are many commercial sprays for sale that will help to keep critters at bay. Most animal repellents are made to mimic the odour of predators such as foxes and wolves(saving you the bother of buying a real wolf for your back yard) and often come in the form of pellets that you can sprinkle around.
7. Herbs – You can always go the natural route by sprinkling herbs around your patio. Dried spices like pepper, cinnamon and chilli powder (it doesn’t grow as powder) will not only deter animals but they are equally effective on many crawling insects, such as ants.
8. Household Products – You might already have what you need around the house. Some household products that are known to keep insects at bay, such as Vaseline, chalk, baby powder, vinegar, dish soap and even glass cleaner. The strong scents that these products give off may also help to keep animals away as well.
9. Chlorine – Chlorine will help to keep your hot tub water bug and insect free by killing off any of the insect eggs and larva that the water born bugs may have laid. Whenever using chlorine make sure you follow the instructions properly. It’s one thing to have a bug free hot tub, but if too much chlorine is used the water won’t be safe for you to use.
10. Build A Fence On Your Deck – This is another fencing option, and perhaps the best one of all. The easiest way to keep your deck or patio safe from unwanted guests in the form of neighbourhood pets, wild animals and people, is to build a fence right up on your deck. A security fence is similar to a pool fence in that it will surround your deck and hot tub . This deck fence can be something as simple as a wooden fence with a locking gate that will help to keep animals out of your hot tuband send a clear warning that trespassers are not welcome.
In order to keep your yard free of unwanted pests, a privacy fence company can easily install a customized swimming pool safety fence around your hot tub, deck or even yard. The right fence will help to keep those unwanted pests, in the form of wild animals, neighborhood pets and even people out of your yard and out of your hot tub.
Buying A Pool Table – Information & Advice
Are you considering buying a pool table? Before making a final decision on which one to get there are several things that you need to take into account…
Size – The size of the table relative to the size of the area into which it will be installed is of the utmost concern. You may very well be able to afford any of the standard 7, 8 or 9 foot tables but if it is too large for the space into which it is to be installed it may not be a wise choice. Consideration must be given to the amount of playing space required around the table. Placing a table in a space that allows inadequate space for making shots with your pool cues will spoil the playing experience.
Slate vs. Non Slate – The choice of material used for the play surface beneath the billiard felt must be made. If money is no object, there is no decision to be made here, always opt for slate as it is the traditional, preferred and most durable material for the job. That being said, non-slate options have improved considerably with the addition of materials such as accuslate. While this is basically just a high density fiber board, the quality is such that it comes with a 7 year warranty.
Shipping – Is there any shipping and / or handling costs? This is especially important if you have to have the table imported or any of the materials imported. If you are shopping online, it never hurts to ask the manufacturer or retailer if they offer free shipping and handling since this can either make or break a deal, depending on your budget. And you also need to be careful because a lot of online retailers make their money not in the actual item that they are selling but through the shipping and handling fees. Online comparison shopping is smart, but you need to make sure that you are looking at all the factors, including shipping, to make sure you are getting the best price on your pool table.
Accessories – These are often forgotten about when people are working out how much they can afford to spend. How much fun can a great pool table be if the accessories are sub-standard? You will need quality pool cues, quality chalk and a great rack. You also want to make sure that you pool cues go with the look and feel of your pool table. And you can not forget the actual pool balls, the cue rack and any other accessories which will make you pool playing experience top notch.
