The Hotpoint electric range is a classic appliance. Why, my grandma still has her 1960's stove in her small cabin by the lake and it still works wonderfully. But then, General Electric is noted for providing some of the most dependable kitchen appliances on the market, and their Hot Point models are no exception.
I've encountered quite a few bad brands in my days working as a salesperson at a local appliance retailer, and I could always confirm the quality of GE products. There are some other good brands out there, but GE just creates some classic workhorses. We actually had quite a few of those fancy European (and especially Italian) appliances in our store, and they certainly had definite aesthetic qualities - they're pretty little things, actually - but they would be returned time and time again with a multitude of problems.
This was really a pain because the parts were so much more expensive. Although the initial commissions on merchandise like that were higher, and they were nice looking equipment at first sight, I soon found that it wasn't worth selling them. It not only cost the shop money (which I became a partial investor in after a couple of years) caused by the greater amount of repairs we were forced to do on the machines, but it also harmed my sales in the end.
People get upset when you sell them things that break. Even if you did not know about the quality problems, and willing to fix the problem ASAP, it still was quite a bit of time wasted in someone's day. From all of my experience, I can state that GE makes some great appliances, and their electric ranges really stand out. Not only to do they keep up to date with all of the new (and now seemingly necessary features), but they are much less likely to break.
Fewer and fewer companies make quality goods, and the Hotpoint electric ranges are still the workhorses that they have always been. Really, if you're really using your appliances, there is no cause to simply go for anything that looks good. Go for something that incorporates both style and function. And be sure it is a good item. From my experience, you can't go astray with a GE Hotpoint range.
