A Young Male Drinks Abusively, Gets Motivated To Get Treatment For Alcohol Addiction And Depression, And Enhances His Life

Ralph started drinking heavily when he was a junior in college. Fortunately for him, although he drank excessively and hazardously when he was an adolescent and a young adult, when he got beyond the age of twenty-five he almost always drank in moderation.

After he finished his education he eventually landed a job at a local tire manufacturer where he worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing manager. Unlike his other positions, as the purchasing manager he constantly took existing vendors and potential vendors to lunch and to various sporting events.

Although it was not written in stone, meeting with potential vendors and existing vendors often involved situations in which alcohol was present. Indeed, over the past eleven months, Ralph had begun to appreciably increase his social and his work-related drinking. This has led to a quandary. More explicitly, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more heavily he began to drink.

In truth, it did not take very long before Ralph's excessive drinking started to negatively affect his relationships, the money in his savings account, his health, his mental health, and his work efficiency. At one point, Ralph, if truth be told, began to get anxious about his unhealthy and abusive drinking and questioned if his alcohol-related concerns were alcoholism signs. Moreover, his increasing bouts of depression also made him wonder if he was becoming dependent on alcohol. In short, Ralph obviously needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and the signs of alcoholism.

So Ralph used his reasoning skills, called his physician, and made an appointment for a complete physical exam. A week later after seeing his health care practitioner, Ralph unfortunately found out that he was alcohol dependent. His doctor informed Ralph that he needed to get alcohol detox and alcohol rehab for his alcohol dependency and that he also needed to get a medical assessment regarding his depression. In a word, Ralph needed treatment for his alcohol dependency and depression.

His health care practitioner suggested to Ralph that he take a 30-day leave of absence from work and get enrolled in a quality in-patient alcohol rehab clinic where his depression could also be assessed and treated. This is precisely what Ralph did. The positive news is that after his treatment for depression and for alcohol addiction, he felt like a new individual. In fact, now that he was sober he rarely got depressed and he now knew how to more successfully and productively manage his health, his job, his relationships, and his finances.

It almost goes without saying that the most challenging test Ralph ran into was at the office. More specifically, he still took his existing vendors and potential vendors to lunch and to various sporting events, but after his alcohol rehab he managed to stay away from drinking while entertaining his clients.

Interestingly, Ralph also discovered that none of his potential vendors or his existing vendors thought any less of him because of his alcohol-free lifestyle. Conversely, he discovered that his potential vendors and existing vendors respected him for staying strong to his convictions.

After Ralph went through alcohol rehab he learned that if he said "no" to drinking, all of the other meaningful parts of his life would be fortified. Every once-in-a-while, it can be pointed out, Ralph missed drinking, but the better relationships, work performance, health, and the better finances he experienced more than counterbalanced his craving for alcohol.
