An Alcohol Dependent Individual Registers For Rehab And Receives Alcohol Detox And Rehabilitation For His Alcohol Addiction

Donald used to boast to his buddies how he could keep a forty hour per week job and get smashed virtually every night. Unfortunately, after involving himself in this party lifestyle for about two-and-a-half years, he started to have numerous alcohol related problems.

For instance, he had a very hard time getting up for work because he felt so sleepy when he awoke. Not only this, but almost every morning Donald suffered through a painful hangover. It was apparent that the combination of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel energized to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, he recently received his second drunk driving arrest in the past eight months.

To complicate things further, at work his last two performance appraisals were less than satisfactory. And finally, his six-year relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his financial difficulties, angry outbursts, depression, and his lack of patience.

Although Donald was only twenty-five years old, he frankly started to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what abusive and excessive drinking can do to a person. And from a realistic perspective he knew that he was experiencing the adverse effects of alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to give up his life to abusive and careless drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon grasped the fact that he lost all control after ingesting his first drink. Due to the fact that this was a situation that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this troubled him greatly. In fact, he began to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.

After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his abusive and unhealthy drinking with his lady friend, he finally decided to make an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his physician, he actually stated that he has been drinking in a hazardous manner, that he may be exhibiting behavior characteristic of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to stop drinking. He then mentioned that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not seem to work for him and as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Donald also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health issue was negatively affecting his relationship with his lady friend. His family doctor referred Donald to Doctor DeRosa, an alcohol and drug addiction psychologist, who influenced Donald to enroll in an alcohol and drug treatment facility as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this facility.

After three months of comprehensive rehab, Donald left the residential rehab facility and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a more productive manner, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out three or four times per week. Within four months Donald was a new person. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he remained sober for several months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. Simply put, quitting drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
