I have had an issue with my weight since I was a kid. There have been periods in my life where I am close to my perfect weight and there have been other periods when I have been 60 pounds overweight. No matter how good I feel and look when my weight is lower I return to old routines of overeating. I love food, all versions of food. I love cooking, food shopping, and serving food to friends. I know my weight isn't healthful, but I love making healthful foods. I also like making meals which are high in calories.
My cooking skills and love of food started to create a fitness difficulty for my husband as well. He has never been heavy, but soon the amounts and types of food that I had in the house began to catch up with him. He told me that he needed to find a diet program that would help him lose the extra 15 pounds which he had gained. I agreed that I needed to try to lose fat and increase my fitness level again so we went on a low carb diet together. I have tried every eating plan known to humankind, from weight watchers to pills, to pre-mad food programs. I am aware that I need to make a fitness change in addition to the dieting, because it doesn't matter how much I lose I put it back on. The most difficult part of the new eating plan is discovering a low-carbohydrate breakfast. It is absolutely true that you can eat eggs, cheese and meat; but, these things take some time to prepare. I leave for work very early in the morning time so taking time to make a low-carbohydrate breakfast was not something I wished to do. Many of the fast solutions for a morning meal didn't fit the criteria for a low-carbohydrate breakfast. Toast, cereals, flavored yogurts and fruits that are fast to grab and eat on the run weren't on the list of satisfactory foods.
When we were on this diet there weren't as many low-carbohydrate foods in the marketplace as there are nowadays. Most prepared and packaged low-carbohydrate breakfast foods and other meals appeared one or two years later, after the low-carbohydrate eating plan became so popular. I find it interesting that once all of the packaged foods started to be available, people weren't having as much success with the diet program. The convenience of the packaged foods leads to a greater calorie intake. My resolution for the low-carbohydrate breakfast was to cook a dozen eggs on Sundays. I would keep them in the refrigerator and eat two of them each morning. For a mid morning treat I would eat a couple of pieces of string cheese and then have a salad or bun-less burger and a side salad for lunch. Supper was consistently protein and greens. We did both lose fat on the eating plan and the nice part was that you do not feel hungry.
